Retrospectacular Total And Thank Yous

Retrospectacular to Benefit NAMI Total, 7-19-09, 9:19 pm

Thank Yous:

First, foremost, and without a doubt, the lovely and amazing Ms. Alicia Falworth, who, without her help, there is no way in hell this ever would've happened.

Also, in no particular order, Glamouramam Boa & The Slag Burlesque Troupe, Jacolyn Mathy, Mzdeedee Dagger, Alabama Smalls, Gwendowlyn Weston, Jasper Haifisch, Woody Stapleton, Enigma Bombay/Xi Ballyhoo/Solange Simundsen, OMGWTF Barbecue, Lindsey Rowlands, Hallelujah Mighty, Serenity Thor, Kookie Hax, ssmariner Flossberg, Zedelbee Zuhal, Violet Morellet, Irie Campese, devo Horten/Opus Romano, Alex Kawanishi, Bakersfield Kidd, Malkavius Aeon, UVAL Amiot, Rumpledink Robbiani, Clark Bowenford, all the club owners who allowed their djs to skip set/etc, all the djs, kissing booth volunteers, car wash volunteers, auctionees, people who donated items, people who lent items, people who helped build, and anyone else I've left out (not on purpose, trust me, bring it to my attention and I'll make a correction). Thank you all so very much!
From the bottom of our hearts,
Katelynn Dastardly & Alicia Falworth <3

Rewrite of Time Doesn't Heal All Wounds

Time Doesn't Heal All Wounds Rewrite
7-19-09

some things never fade with time
remain an ache prodding my heart
some images stay imprinted in my mind's eye
for all eternity
no matter how hard I try to wipe them from my memory palace
these things I never forget
I choke on them and their indignities
I may suffer less but that doesn't
take the sting from their bite
nor does it lessen the blood that
oozes from wounds that never heal

New Poem: The Fruition Of The Dream

the fruition of the dream

i've got my eye on the prize
and for once, i've shed my disguise
i'm the caterpillar emerged from the cocoon
a butterfly, and not a moment too soon

alas, nothing gold can stay
it all fades away
they'll take it from you in every way
again, all your edges begin to fray

yet, i ain't gonna let the bastards get me down
i won't go without a fight, i'll win the crown
i'll do this thing, i'll see the fruition of my dream
all i need is a little lovin' and my all-star team

how can i give up?
how can i pour the wine from the cup?
i can't let this be the end of something i built
i can't let one small thread unravel the whole damn quilt

so have no fear
i may have been taken down a peg
but i see no reason to grovel or beg
everything will eventually make itself crystal clear

New Poem: Fairy Tales and Myths

moments collide
with breathless abandon
my senses electrified,
my nerve-endings jangly,
every fiber of my being overcome with emotions i thought were the stuff of fairy-tales or myths
never did i know the princess could kiss the frog and he'd turn into a prince
nor did i figure the ugly duckling actually ever turned into a swan
but here i am
as beautiful as anyone
beaming from ear to ear
joy seeping from every pore
illuminating me
as for once
i take center stage
am the belle of the ball
and this time without substance to help me along
pure and free
i shine like a firefly
dancing around you
lighting you
with my illuminosity
and ferocity
a mythic being
the stuff fairy tales
and myths
are made of.

Ever wish you could go back in time?

The Retrospectacular to Benefit NAMI, July 10-12
flyer by Glamouramama Boa

Do it this weekend. Go back in time, that is. Srsly. I kid you not. Haven't seen me around lately? No blog posts, no tweets, no random sets, no major hanging out? Well, kids, I been working on something special for yas. Don't get me wrong. I didn't do it alone. I can in no way take full credit for this amazing thing that has become The Retrospectacular to Benefit NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). I've had so much help from soooo many people, in particular Alicia Falworth, Jacolyn Mathy, Serenity Thor, Glamouramama Boa, Mzdeedee Dagger, Gwendolyn Weston, ssmariner Flossberg, Zedellbee Zuhal, OMGWTF Barbecue, Woodrow Stapleton, Kookie Hax, my other team members, the great volunteers djing, working the kissing booth, working the car wash, offering themselves up in the date auction, etc, and, last but not least, the SLag Burlesque Troupe. If I left anyone out, I sincerely apologize and know it wasn't intentional.

Anyways, this thing is gonna be nutso. The sim, if I do say so myself, is looking hot to death. And I keep hearing good things so I think we done good. Come check it out yourself, here's the slurl:

The Retrospectacular to Benefit NAMI sim

The dj lineup is sick. And many of the djs have been inspired by the 50-70s theme of the Retrospectacular or the sim itself to do theme sets. I'm so excited to hear these amazing djs stream! Plus, we've got AMAZING dances, and maybe, just maybe, (remember, it was mainly Alicia and I working on the stuff like that soooo... *insert you own inferences here*), there might be a variety of balls around the sim (though nothing you can have TOO much fun with :P). Plus, we have cars and animals and a diner, farm with barn, chicken coop, and farmhouse, a HUGE school building that's been modded to be the main dance area, a skate rink with a vendor so you can buy your skates AT the event, a car wash, a kissing booth and "town square"-type area, a playground, mini trailer park, an incredible military-style tent and stage for the Slag performance and date auction, an amazing voting area for the photo contest, the cutest kinda hawaiian-tiki-60s-surf-type beach complete with surf hut, tiki hut, surf van, water slide, bumper boats, and more. And so on and so forth. It's definitely worth a gander -- I'd keep it forever if I could.

Hmm... what else? OH YEAH... events!
- dance marathon with trivia
- SLag performance
- kissing booth
- car wash
- photo contest
- date auction
- 60ish hours of 50-70s musics (with one exception, come to the event to find out what it is), some themed, some not

- etc

Well, I guess that's about it for me ranting and raving about it. I'll leave you with the info you REALLY want...

The Retrospectacular To Benefit NAMI is a charity event to raise funds to benefit a national mental health organization, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). The event will take place from Friday July 10, 11 am slt, until Monday July 13, 1 am slt. It will feature round-the-clock djs, a dance marathon, roller skating, kissing booth, car wash, date auction, best-dressed photo contest, and USO/pinup-style SLag performance! The djs will do their sets on various areas of the sim (ie the camp, the school, the beach, the roller rink, etc), as their set determines. We hope to see you all there and hope you have a great time! It's for a great cause and should be a blast! All proceeds will be donated to NAMI.

NAMI is "...the nation’s largest grassroots organization for people with mental illness and their families. Founded in 1979, NAMI has affiliates in every state and in more than 1,100 local communities across the country. It is dedicated to the eradication of mental illnesses and to the improvement of the quality of life for persons of all ages who are affected by mental illnesses. A "poor me" poem called "Loneliness"

6-4-09
Loneliness

days like this i lose myself
in the cloud of loneliness
i swim in
and the tears steam down my face
like miniature rivers
i know i'm not alone
that this
this awful feeling
is what connects us
makes us human
but i take no comfort in that
i cannot feel the millions of hands
searching for mine
nor the voices crying out
to be heard
by someone just like me
i'm trapped by my awful self-obsession
consumed by it
as it eats me alive
til i'm nothing more than
bone
that one day
will rot
til i bleed into the earth
and become nothingness
